BOMBANANA Not Launching or Crashing

If BOMBANANA will not launch, crashes when you press Play, or the demo will not open, this page collects the known causes. Several details are still being confirmed, and where a fix is not verified it is marked as such.

First steps (any platform)

1. Verify the game files — Steam → BOMBANANA → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. This is the standard fix for a corrupted install or a file an antivirus quarantined.
2. Update your GPU driver.
3. Check the Steam news / patch notes. A hotfix (v1.0.1, September 4, 2026) went out to "solve some current issues within the game" — it did not list specific items, so an early crash you hit may already be fixed.

Crashing when you press Play

Reported mostly by Linux (Proton) players on Ubuntu Core: the game opens, but pressing the Play button freezes or crashes it. Trying multiple Proton versions did not help for those players; a Proton Hotfix build was the most stable for one. Whether Windows players hit the same thing is not confirmed. See the Linux guide.

The il2cpp error

Some players (reported in Russian searches) see an error about failing to load il2cpp. This kind of error is usually a corrupted or quarantined game file — verify the game files, add an antivirus exception for the game folder, and reinstall if it persists. The exact cause for BOMBANANA is not confirmed.

The demo will not open

Reports of the Steam demo not launching exist, but the cause is not documented here. Verify the demo's files the same way, and check that your Steam client is up to date.

Stuck after clearing level 7

A common search is not being able to progress past Campaign level 7 even after clearing it — a suspected progression bug rather than a difficulty wall. The September 4 hotfix may have addressed this; check the patch notes and the official Discord for the current status. This is not confirmed as fixed.

A light will not turn on

Some players search for a module light that does not light up. Whether this is a bug or a role-visibility issue (the Blind Monkey cannot see lights) is not confirmed.
